Editorial Review:

Amazon.com essential video:
Barbra Streisand's self-absorbed remake of a 1958 French film stars Jeff Bridges as a college professor tired of sexual politics. He makes a deal with a dowdy colleague (Streisand) that they provide companionship for one another, with no thought of getting into bed. She agrees but soon becomes frustrated, the agreement only reinforcing her unfulfilled desire to have a complete relationship with a man. Mimi Rogers is on hand as Babs's striking sister, and Lauren Bacall received an Oscar nomination for her role as the heroine's selfish mother. The film is OK, but it becomes an irritating vanity piece for Streisand (who directed as well as stars). Her character constantly gazes upon her own reflection and is told at least a dozen times, one way or another, just how attractive she is. One wants to shout out, we get it already--you're pretty! The DVD release presents the film in both widescreen and pan and scan versions, plus a Dolby soundtrack. --Tom Keogh

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Mirror Has Two Faces
Jeff Bridges and "Babs, Dahling!" combine efforts to spark an excellent look into modern romance from an academic perspective. The two Columbia professors meet through a personal ad, written by a sexually jilted Bridges and answered by lonely Streisand's manipulative sister, after floundering through unsatisfactory relationships that left them both wanting more, much more. How do you find and maintain a lasting substantive love in a world that is aflame with "silly romantic notions"? Great supporting ... Read More

What can I say, other than this is a soon to be classic Barbara film. She wrote, stared, and produced it! Is there any end to her talents?
Self promotion? Why not!

Barbra Streisand plays Rose Morgan, a Romatic Lit. professor, who wants to be in a relationship but feels that she is destined to be alone and still living with her mother, Fate steps in. Rose and Gregory meet. if you want to know the rest GET THE ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Mirror Has Two Faces
While this movie will never win any acclaim or awards, it was a light romantic comedy that hit a home run with me. I liked Jeff Bridges and Barbara Streisand together. They were funny and had good rapport together on screen.

The Mirror Has Two Faces

When our local cable company started running this film a month ago, I had almost forgotten that I had seen it in the theatre when it first came out. I was reminded of how much I had missed the film and started watching it again. I was surprised and pleased to find that I still enjoy it and I've watched it faithfully every time that it's shown.

Jeff Bridges plays a Columbia University mathematics professor, Gregory Larkin. He is good looking but a boring, ... Read More
