Amazon.com essential video: Francis Ford Coppola took some of the deep background from the life of Mafia chief Vito Corleone--the patriarch of Mario Puzo's bestselling novel The Godfather--and built around it a stunning sequel to his Oscar-winning, 1972 hit film. Robert De Niro plays Vito as a young Sicilian immigrant in turn-of-the-century New York City's Little Italy. Coppola weaves in and out of the story of Vito's transformation into a powerful crime figure, contrasting that evolution against efforts by son Michael Corleone to spread the family's business into pre-Castro Cuba. As memorable as the first film is, The Godfather II is an amazingly intricate, symmetrical tragedy that touches upon several chapters of 20th-century history and makes a strong case that our destinies are written long before we're born. This was De Niro's first introduction to a lot of filmgoers, and he makes an enormous impression. But even with him and a number of truly brilliant actors (including maestro Lee Strasberg), this is ultimately Pacino's film and a masterful performance. --Tom Keogh

Rating: - BETTER THAN "1"
It's probably my favorite movie of all time & even better than the first one, which is saying alot! I watched all 3hrs & 20min of it twice in the same week & never got bored...it's that good. It's a trivia-geek thing, but it's fun to see how many of the actors also ended up in either The Sopranos or Goodfellas.

The GODFATHER II DVD
The God father is based upon Mario Puzo's novel of a Sicilian Family moved to the United States circa 1920's. Don Corleone goes into the olive oil business, what else would you expect? He soon learns that it is easier to make money on the wrong side of the law and recruits a small gang of fellow Sicilians.

Rating: - Godfather 2
It was an excellent follow up to the 1st one. I have to admit I've seen it dozens of times in the past. There was one thing I noticed about the screen quality: dark in some places to a point where i wished I could adjust the contrast or the brighness. Otherwise I enjoyed it for the upteenth time :)
Rating: - Best Mob picture ever?
One of my favorite films of all time, I would rank this slightly higher than the original Godfather, and Once Upon A Time In America as best gangster films of all time.
This film will keep you on the edge of your seat with it's excellent writing and superb performances.
Adding the earlier DeNiro Don Corleone interspersed with the more modern Pacino scenes is pure brilliance, as it all ties together perfectly to enhance this sometimes gruesome, yet compeeling story.
Rating: - the best sequel of all time
This is one of those rare sequels that overshadows the original in every way. This is very dark, sophisticated storytelling that is much more engaging than the straightforward original. If you haven't seen the godfather movies yet, stop with this one and forget part 3 exists.
