Product Description: Story of a friendship between a headstrong refined Southern woman and her patient chauffeur. Genre: Feature Film-Drama Rating: PG Release Date: 7-JUN-2005 Media Type: DVD
Amazon.com essential video: Winner of the Academy Award for best picture of 1989, this gracefully moving drama, adapted from the hit play by Alfred Uhry, chronicles the 25-year friendship between a stubborn, aging Southern widow (Jessica Tandy) and her loyal chauffeur (Morgan Freeman). At first, the self-sufficient Miss Daisy is reluctant to accept the services of a chauffeur, but Hoke is quiet, wise, and tolerant, and as the years pass the unlikely friends develop a deep mutual respect and admiration. Tandy deservedly won the Oscar for her sassy and sensitive performance, and Freeman earned an Oscar nomination for bringing quiet depth and integrity to his memorable role. Ironically, director Bruce Beresford (Tender Mercies) was not nominated, but the film won Oscars for makeup and for Uhry's screenplay, in addition to a supporting actor nomination for Dan Aykroyd as Daisy's supportive son. Delicate, funny, and bittersweet, Driving Miss Daisy was a surprise hit when released, and marked the crowning achievement of Tandy's great career. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: - Simply A Great Movie
I can remember when my husband took me, our then 9-year-old daughter, and his mother to see this movie when it was in the theaters. I loved it then and I love it every bit as much now. There were many scenes where Miss Tandy, as Miss Daisy, reminded me of my husband's mother (who is gone now). I shed many a tear as I watch the movie because its story is so poignant - and I will always miss my husband's mother.
I won't go into a synopsis since I really can't add anything more to what's ... Read More
Rating: - Driving Miss Daisy.....excellent classic.
This film was just as good as when I watched it as a kid, even better now that I got some of the subtle humor!
Rating: - some gliches
This was a great movie, but the quality of the dvd is questionable, because were some gliches in the viewing and had to fast forward to continue the movie.
Rating: - Unlikely friendship.
Driving Miss Daisy is a sweet and timeless story of two strangers who strike up a friendship that last for many years. Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman are perfection together, they play such opposite characters but their differences bring them closer. Dan Aykroyd is also great in this film, he is such an under-rated actor. I highly recommend this gem, enjoy!
