Amazon.com: In the breezy Maid in Manhattan, a maid in a top-flight hotel (Jennifer Lopez, Out of Sight, The Wedding Planner) chances to dress in a guest's clothes just when a handsome political candidate (Ralph Fiennes, Schindler's List, Red Dragon) walks in. Naturally, he's bowled over and pursues her; he's initially drawn to her gorgeous good looks but soon comes to appreciate her honesty and common sense. Of course, she can't let him know that she's only a maid, and various high jinks ensue--it's all pretty formulaic, but lurking in the edges of this glossy, brainless romance are a wealth of sly turns by Natasha Richardson and Amy Sedaris (as callow socialites), Bob Hoskins (as a dignified butler), Stanley Tucci (as Fiennes' exasperated campaign manager), and many less familiar faces. All help to give Maid in Manhattan the life and texture that has been processed out of the main characters. --Bret Fetzer

Rating: - A real "feel-good" movie! Romance, suspense, humor ...
I was writing another book review when this movie came on TV. When I saw Jennifer Lopez, I started watching and was hooked from the first scene with her little son. I just finished it and must say I truly enjoyed the time spent watching this "feel-good" movie. It was just what the doctor ordered after a two-day stint with the flu. This certainly went well with my recuperative fare of tea and toast. ... lol ...
In this movie, Lopez plays--you guessed it!--a maid who works in a top ... Read More
Rating: - Like Modern-Day Cinderella
(this is Geri here)I usually don't go for silly fluffy things like this, but I adore this sweet little movie. I am older and always loved the beautiful fairy-tale Cinderella. This story is just like that, but in modern day NYC. It's wonderful. I always cry just a lttle bit at the beautiful and happy ending. PS - Love the little boy.
Rating: - Light diversion; Entertaining
I watched this on TV, commercials and all, and I still enjoyed it. I was not in a mood to take things seriously, and this gentle, harmless diversion from director Wayne Wang was not an offense to my intelligence. Lopez & Fiennes (with an American "accent") were good together, and good supporting roles by Amy Sedaris, Natasha Richardson, Bob Hoskins and, especially, Stanley Tucci, were a riot. In sweet, mindless films like this, the supporting characters are always the best. I could've been doing ... Read More
Rating: - Main in Manhattan
Maid in Manhattan is a touching light romantic comedy. Jennifer Lopez, Ralph Fiennes and the supporting cast turn in convincing performances and the story line, though fanciful, is still completely believable.
Rating: - Unrealistic, vomit-inducing
I cannot fathom why on earth, the perfectly talented Ralph Fiennes would ever choose to star in a film like this. Perhaps it was to get away from his usual dramatic stuff. However, this is literally the last type of film I'd ever want to see him in. And don't get me wrong, he was good in this. He's good in everything. But he is just a very small part of this film. Everything, from the plot to the characters is just so unrealistic. Its almost unwatchable. Its utter rubbish, no one could ever believe in ... Read More
