Amazon.com:
Jane Eyre--the mother of all gothic romances--gets abundant passion in this 11-episode BBC miniseries. Young Sian Pattenden is wonderfully willful and impetuous; viewers will immediately identify with the child Jane as she fights against ill-treatment at the home of her aunt and at boarding school. It's a shame to see her grow up into Zelah Clarke--until Clarke asserts her own quiet yet fierce spirit. The plot really starts rolling when Jane takes a position as governess at Thornfield, a handsome estate owned by the imperious and tortured Mr. Rochester (Timothy Dalton, a few years before he became James Bond). From there, this 1983 adaptation rips through the perilous highs and devastating lows of Charlotte Bronte's powerful novel, in which the courtship of these two prickly personalities gets twists and turns galore. Though the visual style is a bit pedestrian, the well-crafted script and skillful performances grow more gripping with every episode. The necessary feverishness springs from simple yet effective means, like macabre laughter floating down the halls of Thornfield. The scenes between Clarke and Dalton crackle with chemistry; Bronte fans will not be disappointed. --Bret Fetzer

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - best rochester ever!!!
There could never be a better Rochester than Timothy Dalton. He was perfect for the part.....he brought to life a brooding, dark, and mysterious persona to what is a really difficult character to portray.... this movie deserves top rating and 10 more stars out of all the Jane Eyre remakes. Top acting on his part. (And also the rest of the cast). Hats off to Timothy Dalton! Also, this is the very best Jane Eyre movie ever made.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Surprising
I'd never have believed that anyone could make the long, flowery, ornate, 19th century language in Charlotte Bronte's novel sound natural in a modern-day production -- "my pet lamb" -- and "Jane, you strange, almost unearthly thing," etc. etc. or that I would find a James Bond actor believable as Rochester. Wrong on both counts. Timothy Dalton's performance here is really a tour de force. He's mercurial, explosive, intense, brooding, cunning, manipulative, self-pitying, insightful, mischievous, sexual, ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful version
I've seen many different adaptations of this book, but I feel this one is the best, by far. It captures the true feelings of the book, from the depths of despair to the heights of joy and passion. A must see.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Jane Eyre (BBC)
Was very pleased to see a most accurate portrayal of the novel Jane Eyre. The BBC has been most honest in their dramatization of their best novels. The only difficulty with this video was the chapter breaks... they distracted from the continuety of the film. Otherwise it was very well portrayed and would recommend to anyone who; as I do, prefers a more accurate portral of books read.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The BEST Jane Eyre movie
I am a huge fan of the original Jane Eyre book, and I have long been looking for a movie that does proper justice to it. At last, I have found it! This movie had a great cast, and was very close to the book. The only points they altered were so minimal that it didn't matter one way or the other. The acting was truly superb, Timothy Dalton IS Mr. Rochester. While he was too handsome for the role technically, he did such a magnificent job on the acting that I love it anyway! :) I would HIGHLY recommend this ... Read More
