Rating: - A sweet surprise
I rented this movie to see Toby Stephens but bought it because it was immediately engaging and special. Perhaps I was so charmed because I was caught by such surprise. The set-up is a family reunion attended by some of the less well off members as well as the amazingly rich ones. They hardly know of one another, hence the title. Several generations are represented which adds to the richness of the tale. I was expecting dark secrets reavealed with grave consequences. Instead I got something far more ... Read More
Rating: - WHAT A TREAT
This is a must see - the story, the actors, the cinematography, the direction, etc. I did not want it to end - it was so enjoyable - every family, large or small, could relate to some of the issues at hand. Rating: - Almost Strangers is strangely moving...
I found the movie surprised me. I wasn't sure what to expect really. I've only seen Matthew Macfayden in period dramas thus far. I knew he had done other work, and so this modern film was purchased to better determine his acting scope. I was pleasantly pleased. This is NOT a period film, per se. It's a modern family reunion of a large British family and about learning how similar we really all are...despite distance, breeding, etc.
