A lot of you that wrote reviews thought that it was a bad movie. I personally think that Murphy did a great job as an actress and really showed herself in character. With the huge twist in the ending, the movie seemed different than most. This movie also showed that someone who can have such a huge setback can also recover and follow your dreams. Murphey prooved that you should never quit. I, along with some friends, really enjoyed this movie. It taught us something about ourselves, that we can accomplish ANYTHING, if we just believe.

Question: why did a talented distingushed actress like Holly Hunter get involved in this idiotic film? Everything is bad about Little Black Book. I rented it at Blockbuster for my teenage daughter and even she hated it. I must admit that I did not/could not watch all of it but I did catch the incredibly heavy-handed finale.
The script is beyond terrible: one painful cliche after another and Brittany Murphy is simply a no-talent. To avoid at all costs. The worst movie I have seen in a very long time.

I was grossly disappointed in this film. It wasn't so much that it was a bad movie, as it was that it was not at all what I expected. The movie has an interesting twist and the premise is certainly intriguing, but "romantic comedy" it is not. If you're looking for a good Meg Ryan-esque light-hearted comedy, look elsewhere. The previews led one to believe that would be what you got, but nothing could be further from the truth. This movie was more Jerry Springer meets My Best Friend's Wedding. The movie drags quite a bit in the beginning and the chuckles are very few. Murphy is adorable as ever in the movie, but that's just not enough. Holly Hunter turns in a great performance, but still not enough to make this a good movie. Ron Livingston was a poor choice for the boyfriend role, as it seems a bit unbelievable that he would attract the caliber of girlfriends that the movie wants you to believe (such as a super model). His acting is adequate for the small amount of screen time that he actually has, but they could have chosen better.

I rented this DVD to watch with my 2 daughters while my son went to watch the football play-offs with my husband and friends. It was HORRIBLE. I thought its' characters were nasty, conniving, deceitful and morally inept. It was a waste of my money and definitely my time. I am so sorry that I put my daughters through it. What a shame that Holly Hunter stooped to such a level as to playing this loathsome business woman. So, do you need to betray a friend to get ahead in the TV producing business? HORRIBLE!!!

2004 was a year full of mindless fluff movies that for some reason satisfy the moviegoing public. This slight effort LITTLE BLACK BOOK has only four reasons for viewing it: Holly Hunter, Brittany Murphy, Kathy Bates and Ron Livingston. These are all fine actors and prove that even with a substandard script and heavyhanded direction their talents shine through. The plot, what little there is of it, deals with the consequences of betrayal, all centered on the updated little black palm pilot that unfortunately is a symbol of our preoccupation with technology and how the new knowledge is manipulated for tired old reasons.
Watch it for some of the facial language of Murphy and Hunter and for the way all four main characters toss off lines with a bit of tongue in cheek that keeps this flimsy film afloat. Grady Harp
