The Wedding Date is charming, delightful fluff, satisfying in all the ways screwball comedies are meant to be.
The story is based on the too common fantasy that making one's ex thoroughly jealous with a perfect rival will make him want you back.
Messing plays the American everywoman who has lost her confidence after being jilted at the altar. She dreads her sister's wedding in England in which she will be Maid of Honor and her ex will be Best Man. Messing hopes that hiring Mulroney's strong-shoulder-to-lean-on will help her survive the wedding weekend with dignity intact. Just maybe it will make her ex will see the light.
We're pretty sure we know how it will end right from the start, but that is the genre. It's the unfolding, the gradual enlightenment of our main characters, and the transformations from pretend to real, that are right on target. Our enjoyment in watching them is increased by tasty settings and dialog, and quirky and oblivious friends and family.
If you don't appreciate the genre you probably won't like this one either, but those of us who treasure romantic comedies, who mourn that there are so few excellent offerings, will cherish this one.

I expected this movie to be a funny romantic comedy, but it really wasn't. Debra Messing is the jilted lover, expected to put in an appearance at her sisters wedding. She wants to make her ex jealous, and show the rest of her family that she has moved on. An escort is hired to be her boyfriend because her family is hideous to her about how it should be you getting married. She ends up with the surprise of her life when she finds out her ex was involved with her sister at the same time. This is not one of my favorites. Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney only give adequate performances.

an okay chick flick. Typical girl meets..er pays guy. They fall in love, conflict arises and they separate only to realize that they can't live without each other. Well, it doesn't exactly happen like that but it is a pretty good summary. There is some crude sex humor, a bedroom scene and bad language. I can recommend it to adults only.

Even though I had seen this movie before, my girlfriend had not. We laughed and had a good time with this movie. Especially with the references to Air Supply. I think it's a funny romantic comedy that didn't take itself to sereously.
